Tranny Question on P1744 code
Hello everyone...I've been using this site for years to save hundreds of dollars doing my own work on my old 2004 F150. I'll get right to the point! 190K miles on it. I hauled a load of retaining wall block on a trailer last fall that was probably too heavy...(it was). About a week later I got the "Transmission Malfunction" message on the dash. (OD light was not flashing) I checked the fluid and it was a little low so I added some and never got the message again until this Spring. This time the OD light was flashing with the "Transmission Malfunction" message. I was driving home and had about 35-40 miles to go when I started smelling burnt tranny fluid which was leaking from somewhere onto one of my catillac converters on the passenger side. Made it home, checked fluid, it was burnt and blackish. So after all this, I still haven't noticed any slipping, grinding, or shifting problems at all. I got the code read and its P1744 which has to do with the TCC as you know. Guy said my tranny needs rebuilt which sucks...
Sooo after hours of research, here is my question. What are the chances that it is just the TCC Solenoid that needs replaced? I am planning on buying all 3 solenoids and a new internal wiring harness and replacing those 4 things along with flushing out all the fluid... I mean I did read that a bad TCC solenoid could cause overheating but it also had other symptoms that I am not experiencing. Anyone have any input on whether I'm just wasting my time by trying to replace these solenoids and wiring harness and flushing the entire tranny and putting in fresh fluid?
Thanks

Putting all that work and a lot of fluid in is like giving a guy who died of thirst a big drink . What 400 to 500 towards a 1800 rebuild with heavier parts . Make sure you have a tranny cooler in front and add a transmission drain type pan and change fluid every 30 to 40k . Mercon V only . Make sure you get upgraded parts . I may have to do this one day .
