Default Tranny Flush or Not ?

Taking my truck in for it's 45K service. I do a bit of towing and I'm wondering if I should have the tranny flushed or just have them change the fluid ? I don't know the history of the truck as I've only had it a couple months.

Pro's and con's of tranny flush ?

Thanks

So Ford doesn't have this in their scheduled service until 90k, but it's never a bad idea to flush the transmission early.

In terms of just changing the fluid versus flushing, the only way to get all of the fluid is to flush the transmission. However, you can't get the filter out without dropping the pan.

So, if you're towing a lot, pushing the vehicle hard off road, or otherwise 'abusing' your transmission, flush the transmission. I'd wait until 90k to drop the pan and change the filter.

Thanks for the info. I tow a travel trailer at least once a month, about 6000 pounds. I just assumed a flush included a new filter, good to know it does not.

Absolutely yes to the tranny flush. I would tend to disagree on the 90K recommendation if you are towing a vehicle. My truck had it done at 75K by the Ford dealership I bought it from (the truck was a sales managers personal vehicle).

I called to schedule the service and asked about a coolant flush, they said it was not necessary till 100K, but I think 50K is enough to change it out.... anyone disagree ?

I haul a 26 ft Outback with our 02 Supercrew 4.6L and change the tranny fluid &filter + axle fluid yearly. Some think this is overkill, I prefer it. If you do not know the history, dump and flush it all. At least from there you have a starting point
