Default towing package

Ok, I'm back w/ another question. Like I said in the previous post. I just bought a 2006 ford F-150 XLT 4.6L V8. I am wondering if it has the tow package. I does have a hitch and trailer light hook-up but how can I tell that wasnt added by the previous owner? Any feedback would be helpful... Thanks in advance.

Does the hitch have the flat 4 and the 7 round connectors next to it? My 05 does. All I had to do was install the brake controller and the Ford harness under the dash. I soldered the harness to the controller. The biggest pain was to twist my body around to mount the controller.

Take a look under your dash, right above the OBDII port. there should be a grey connector. That should tell you if the truck is pre-wired for towing.

I would also think that the tow package included a transmission cooler. Open the hood and look at the bottom center for a trans cooler. Don't confuse it with the power steering cooler; follow the lines from the cooler to the transmission to verify.

My 2009 has a Tow/Haul button on the end of the gear selector. Keeps it out of 6th gear as I was told. Is that a new feature only ?

I had that button on my '95... so no its not a new feature. You are correct that it just keeps the truck from shifting into the top gear (for most of us, 4th gear, 2009+ 6th gear)
