Might be worth getting on cragislist and finding some stock tires. Wouldn't be a huge deal to swap them out for the two or three times I tow longer distance in mountains.
Re-gearing isnt bad. Do you have friends that sre mechanics? If not take it to a off road shop and get a price.

probably wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up an edge evolution to give you a little boost when towing and so you can monitor your trans temp along with others. only a few hundred bucks but well worth it.

I was looking at a used SCT X4 on craigslist for $200. Price seems good, seems like it gets good reviews. Just no fancy monitoring of systems, right?

Even with the smaller tires and/or re-gearing, I'd consider a better (larger) transmission cooler, and a tuner that can provide a transmission temperature display.

true, he said he doesn't tow often so i think a 4.56 regear a tuner will do him justice

Id start mods then decide on a re gear
E-fan
Exhaust
Headers
Tune
If you still need more power then id go with a re gear 4.10 would be an easy oe size swap but 4.56 would make the swap worth it

I was towing my ex 23' toyhauler (7000lbs on the scale) whitout issue
07 5,4 2wd stock 32" tall tire on 20" and 3,55 gear. (I have a edge tuner set to the towing(2) mode..really help the transmission IMO)

I totally don't mind flooring it to go up a hill and to maintain the speed.

So it was going in second gear whenever it needed to.

didn't have any issue.

don't be worry to floor it...if not, you might need a diesel then!

Not sure I'd want to tow 8k lbs on a very regular basis with that generation F150.... Its possible but I wouldn't feel very comfortable doing it.
