Default 04 lariat 4wd 3" leveling

Trying to figure out if a 35x12.5 will fit without rubbing on a 18x10 wheel, think I'll be fine but still hesitant

stay close to stock and you will be fine with the 305/55/20 or 285/60/20 or 295/60/20 with the level.

Couldn't you go lip to lip anywhere on the wheel, technically? I mean, it should technically be circular, making everything equal measurements no matter where you measure from. Unless I'm missing something. I'm not trying to sound like an ***, just trying to educate myself further.
