Default Tire Question

2008 F150 XLT 4x4 44,000 Miles

I know I am getting close to the end of the road for my factory tires (General Ameritrac P255/70-17) I have @ 10-15K left on them according to the local tire shop. My guess would be more like 5-7K, but I'm no expert. I tow a 5,000lb travel trailer at least once a month, more during the Summer. As I was researching tires I realized the factory tires are passenger tires, not light truck tires. The tread is not even across the tires. The tread in the center is a little higher than on the outside of the tire. I did the penny check & the tires are fine in the center, but getting pretty close to the limit on the outter tread. Sorry for all of the background info, but I thought it eould be useful for readers.

Finally, the question.

Should I be ok for a while on the current tires, or should I go ahead & bite the bullet & get new tires because of the wear, and towing on a passenger tire rather than a light truck tire?

Thanks!!!!!
