Default Timing chain tensioner failure...repeated.

oil pressure was checked at hot idle. normal conditions was like 40-44, erratic though. needle was constantly bouncing a few pounds. I didn't chance it, second time I did the phasers I put a melling pump in it. the original problem in my opinion was horrible maintenance by a guy who shouldn't have been trying. the timing chain guides were broke when I bought it, but the guy threw solenoids, sensors an plugs at it.

ok. so I talked to autozone today. timing kit I bought was made by sa gear, and their response was the volume of them they sell they see no excessive issues claiming there must be a underlying problem with my truck. if there is a underlying issue I'd love to know what it Is.

different topic kinda. but can someone tell me the difference between Vin code 5, and Vin code v. I found a 2007 f150 5.4 an it's a Vin code v. wondering if that would swap in my 04.

V is 5 in Roman numerals.. So both vin codes are the same.

I started typing the same thing...

Can you validate your timing system is getting properly lubricated? Is your oil pressure good?

Crap parts or not I would not expect this many failures in such a short amount of time. I would pursue checking oil pressure first, then oil galleys to the timing components. Phasers work on oil pressure. Maybe pull a cap on your cam and look for wear?

You may be buying a new motor, don't look at it as a kick in the jimmy, look at it as a time to drop in a forged lower and a blower

when I replaced I the pump, like 4000 miles ago I had 50 psi I believe. I'm the same way, I realize the parts may be cheap, but that many failures in that time isn't right.

Should be 40psi in gear when warm iirc. TBH, I don't know if I would do them again on this motor. Is it possible the galleys are plugged by shavings or debris from prior parts? i would lean towards something being suspect.

anything is possible I suppose. I've went over everything I could, blew air threw the tensioner ports, pulled the valve bodies off an went through them, blew through the pick up tube. idk what else to do
