Default throttle body

hi im not that knowledgeable about fords and im looking info for my dad. He has a 2007 ford 150 4.2L v6 xl truck. And the throttle body is bad. we found this out after taking it to the dealer ship and them figuring it out by checking the error code. They gave him an estimate of $800 to fix it. I looked on ebay and looked for the throttle body assembly. Everything that popped up was 5.4 v8 ford f150 2007. i couldnt find anything for 4.2L v6. so my question is would the 5.4 V8 for f150 2007 throttle body assembly fit on the 4.2L v6 truck.. im sorry if this is a dumb question but dont want him to pay 800 for a part i could buy on ebay for 200. and how hard is it to replace it?

THe throttle body is easy to replace, however, they are engine-specific items. Evidently this is a dealer only item, Rock Auto doesn't carry it. Tasca Ford lists the part for $333.

Interesting.....just went there this morning; searched on "Ford 4.2 throttle body" in the motors-parts and accessories section and this was the second item. Only $89.95

Before seafoam which isn't throttle body specific and won't make it to the throttle body anyhow- take it off the truck and clean it thoroughly with CRC Throttle body cleaner. There is a coating on the inside of throttle bodies that can be damaged by card cleaner or harsh cleaners. Install with new gasket. Unplug the battery while doing this. If the code comes back post here on what the actual code is. Could be a had TPS sensor.

This whole procedure should take less than 1 hour. It's very easy.

Don't be suprised that the dealer did not suggest cleaning the throttle body; they are more apt to replace it, as the price they gave you shows. It takes all of about 15 to maybe 20 minutes to remove it, which includes removing battery cable from the battery, then the tube from the air filter housing to the throttle body, and finally the wiring connector and bolts of the throttle boby itself.

Should you go this route and clean it first (recommended), be aware that once it is all reassembled, the PCM (Powertrain control module) needs to "re-learn" the idle. Drive the truck for about 15 to 30 minutes around town, and at highway speeds.

<smack>

Didn't even think about recommending a cleaning. That's what happens when you answer questions with insufficient caffeine.

That's one hell of a markup on the throttlebody.
