Default thinking of purchasing a 06 4WD,

Looking at this f150 06 4WD. I am not a fan of 4WD.But this one has everything I want , looks like a lariat on the inside too!! even a sun roof!! woohoo.. I'm really just afraid of the costly repairs. I have a 01 f150 Got 366k miles. Still runs good. So much of it is still original parts. No major issues. Anyway, I dont need the 4WD, so if I dont use it could I miss the expense of repairing it? ( other than basic stuff) Could use some feed back!

Just the way I see it. If you really don't want the 4wd then don't buy. 4wd tend to use a little more gas, parts in 4wd system go bad, so there will be repairs for something you may never use. Insurance can be a little to a lot higher for 4wd. I sure there are 2wd out there with the options. But, in the end it's your money, and you have to live with your decision.

You didn't mention what engine we are dealing with, but at 366k miles it would be a major consideration. Not that it would be end of the line - but certainly suggestive of what might need to be getting ready for.

The 366k is his current truck.

Mileage on the '06? With an 11th gen, and Fords in general, maintenance and repairs will be costly no matter how you slice it. The 5.4 3v is money/maintenance intensive. If you won't ever need or want 4wd, I'd look for a 2wd, more for the maintenance aspect than the fuel savings. Unlike most every other 4wd vehicle, where when the front hubs lose vacuum the hubs default to unlocked, on the 11th gen, the hubs default to locked without vacuum (asinine set-up if you ask me), and then lead down a rabbit hole of chasing vacuum leaks, replacing front hubs, IWE solenoids, etc.

I looked for a long time before I found one with the options I wanted without the 4wd, a complete waste of money for me. I've really needed it once in 14 years. The 4wd feels much heavier and more sluggish, if you don't need it keep looking, there's the right one out there.

I had an 05 4wd with the 4.6. I traded it in at 265,000. The engine still didn't use any oil between oil changes. The transmissions tend to break about 250,000. The welds on the hubs on the clutch drums break. Also had to replace the starter, alternator and water pump around 250,000. The only 4wd expense I had was replacing the actuators. I don't remember the mileage. I think there was only about 1mpg les than 2wd. I also liked the stance of 4wd better.
