Default Thinking about trading in...

What's up guys.
I've had my 05 FX4 Screw since December of 2012. It was my first truck a sophomore in HS.
I've done a ton of stuff to it.. It looks nothing like it use to. I've loved it. But at about 12 mpg, and college coming up in the big city (Baton Rouge), I think I want to trade in and get a 4 door Jeep..
My dad has offered a new vehicle for graduation for getting enough scholarship money, and I don't think I want another gas guzzler for college.
From my thinking, I believe a 4 door Jeep will suit my needs. A little better gas mileage, enough off-road ability for my duck and deer hunting, mild towing, and I think I can make it look good. I want a 4 door because I'm 6'5 220 and need more space than a 2 door.
I guess there's no real question here other than reasons to trade in or to keep or to get something else? Anybody have an input?
Also, was wondering if it would be smart to remove most of my mods, (wheels, tires, speakers, radio) or to trade in with them on. Would I get more trade?
Here's pics of my truck and the color Jeep I'm kind of wanting. Either that color, or white or black. Probably not black because of hiding scratches or the lack there of.
Thanks guys. Any input is more than welcome!
Also, I just got a new little buddy.. I figure that probably has an affect on my decision.

you are out of your mind to buy a jeep for better mpg!! probably will be getting worse than your truck. my aunt has a newer model like that except 2 door, bone stock and standard and it gets like 12 mpg

I just traded out of a JK 2 door with the 3.8 v6. You won't see much better mileage, and will lose a ton of low end, Unless you are going to leave a jeep completely stock. With jeeps regears are a must with bigger wheels and tires, even 33's should have a regear. I've heard the newer 3.6 is better, but I wouldn't lose a truck again for anything. You have no idea how much you miss it until it's gone.

Do you have a pic of yours and what did you have? I want a little bit of the lifted look, but not trying to go crazy. Also don't know how 33s look as opposed to 35s on jeeps.

you have an actual cost/benefit analysis to work through......your current vehicle gets 12mpg. those bigass offroad tires are hurting your mileage. My 2WD Lariat got 14.5 in stop and go city traffic. MY current truck averaged 17.2 in town on its last tank. That Jeep you showed a picture of isn't going to help your financial quandary. Also, what are you going to do when you need to replace those big tiress? I know that the cool kids like to run huge tires because mudlife. I get it, but my dad hunted and worked on a farm and never got his Bronco stuck. ever. and he had 31.5in BFG All Terrains.

But seriously, you can score a new truck, even in 2WD for a good deal and get good mileage on the highway. Maybe you should consider something more commuter friendly since you will be in a college town. just a thought.

I realize the big mud tires thing isn't necessary. It looks good now, but I will probably go down to 33s on the Jeep if I do it. And that picture is just the color I like. I won't lift it that much or have that large of tires.
Also, the chance of my dad paying for a 2wd truck or Jeep are slim to none. He thinks it's an oxymoron to buy a 2wd truck. Lol.
I also have a use for off-road tires and 4wd so.

I had a 2011 jk 2 door with a 2.5 lift and 295/70/17 nitto trail graps. You had to downshift 2 gears to pull a hill. It was the 6 speed manual. It was fun and all, but it's no where near one of our trucks. It was a toy.

Looks like you answered all of your own questions, gas guzzler it is.

After all of this time ago I posted this, I got a new car. My F150 is White Lighting and my New 2014 Camaro is White Lightning To (dumb and dumber reference) I ended up with a 2014 LS V6 Camaro with very few options compared to my FX4, but it's a new car that I'm not complaining about at all!! No more DVD touch screen radio with Pandora and such, but I have a good aux cord and a pretty good sound system for stock (not quite like my stock 8" and kicker 6 1/2 back door speakers and 6x8 pioneers. Black leather to clothe was a bit of a disappointment too, always worried about spills It's base model and definitely not the line, but i love it. Best news of this all, pops is keeping the truck for hunting and such as i need to tow a duck boat everyday for about 3 months straight every year. Living the dream because of a full ride to LSU. Anybody younger than me, bust your *** in high school. It can pay off. Now I have to do it in college.... Will get pics of White Lightning To tomorrow if anybody is interested in this year old thread lol
And the pup from the earlier pictures has grown up a little bit!

When someone ask me what I think about jeeps I have one simple answer after owning one I bought brand new. My answer is "You can't run fast enough to leave one in my driveway". Your young and they look cool but I would seriously rethink buying a jeep.
