Default Temp Gauge Not Working

My truck Recentley ran hot ended up replacing my fan clucth. After that my temp gauge has been pegged out on the hot side. Pretty much just laying against the cluster itself. Sometimes it will move for a second and then fall back down. Do i have a short somewhere. I have already replaced my temp sensor thinking that was the issue with no resolve, everything else works as should just no temp gauge. My dealer says just buy a complete new cluster let them flas it and be done with it but thats alittle pricey. Hopefully it is just a simple fix. Any help would be greatly apperciated. Its an 05 f150 supercrew lariat. Thanks

Does it fall to cold when you turn key off?

Try this: get in the truck and hold down the trip stick. Turn the key on, but don't start the truck. It should eventually say "TEST" in the digital display. Let go of the stick, and the gauges should cycle.

I have a lariat it does not have a trio stick. Just a info, setup, and reset buttons. How do I test the gauges on my model? Thanks

Just hold down the reset button instead.
