Default taking a few seconds to startup

I got my truck about 7 months ago (2005 F150 4.6 ) it had 38k and everything was fine, it has about 46k now and as of the last month or two it takes a little longer to start as in I have to hold the key and let it turn over about two seconds to start. its not a huge problem because it always starts and runs fine but I'd like it to startup like it should. I did some searches before I posted this and did not find much, I did see about changing the battery and causing an idle problem, I did change the battery a few months back and didn't know about any procedure so I just put it in but It idles fine (other then the little vibrating the 4.6's are known for) but could this cause the longer starts? should I try and disconnect the battery and do the procedure? or other idea's? plugs maybe? thanks in advance for any info.

My 05 5.4 does this occasionally. It seems completely random to me and I don't have a clue on how to fix it. Only thing I hate about it is when someone hears my truck struggling to start and makes it sound like a POS.

Odds are when you replaced the battery there was enough time between unhooking the old one and hooking up the new one to reset the PCM ignition strategy. It only takes about 2 minutes to drain the keep-alive memory, which runs on a separate circuit than other components (that may have capacitors that hold electricity longer than 2 minutes).

My 5.4 takes about 1 1/2 - 2 seconds to start. It is probably because of the type of battery you have in your truck. Some batteries will throw out juice a fraction of a second faster than others. I got one from Autozone: Duratech or something like that. It is a little cheaper than some others and electricity flows from it a little slower than some nicer, more expensive batteries, like those ones with the yellow top. Can't remember the name, but they are nice.

Sometimes (like 1 time out of 20), only when warm, mine will crank for the usual time it takes to start and just stop cranking. Try again and it fires in about half a second. Just a quirk I guess.

For you guys who have '05's, do you know if the injector problem is only on the 5.4 or is the 4.6 also included (have the same defective injectors)? I would definitely find out, because a slow start is NOT normal and If it were my truck, I wouldn't want to wipe out a motor with a stuck injector, even if Ford would put a rebuilt in for me free of charge. Do you smell ANY fuel on the dip stick??? If you do, it's not only bad for the engine, but will eventually self destruct it.

Nope, that's only on the 5.4.
