Default Tailgate Repair

So the tailgate of my truck and a boat had a meeting of the minds that didn't work out so well for my truck. Has anyone had any experience with re-skinning the tailgate or do I need to buy a whole new one? My truck is a '08 and black if anyone has one laying around.

It would probably be less expensive to find another used tailgate then trying to put a new panel on. If the outer panel is dented up, but otherwise fine everywhere else, why don't you try your hand at some body work. You could paint it yourself or get it professionally painted after that if you like. Can of Bondo won't set you back much, but will require a little elbow grease. If it doesn't come out good, you're not out much and can still get another used gate.

Check your local craigslist. Do a parts search for F150 and then sift through the results.

How bad is the tailgate? I had a trailer/tailgate incident and stopped by a local owned body shop. I asked the owner how much to fix the dent and paint for cash money, no paperwork, I leave the tailgate with you today? He said $150 and you can pick it up day after tomorrow. I said I'll help you remove the tailgate.

I thought about trying to repair it because I do have a little experience with body work, but this is a pretty substantial dent so I don't know if it is repairable.
