Default Tailgate molding

My molding piece on my tailgate is very loose and can almost totally be removed. I really don't want to replace it because the cheapest I have seen is $50. Has anyone repaired theirs? When I say tailgate molding, I mean the black piece that is on top of the tailgate when it is closed. I have an 04 with no bedliner yet.

I've seen them on Tascaparts.com for like $30 I think. I need one my self, just haven't got around to order one yet.

They are around $50 shipped, I replaced mine. If yours is that loose I would replace it, don't want moisture getting down in the tailgate.

Mine came loose from unloading the snowmobile/dirtbike and parts grabbing onto it and ripping on it. I cleaned the paint a little and added some structural silicone underneath, hammered it back on and it hasn't moved a bit since. I work in the glass business so don't know if you will be able to find structural silicone. But I'm sure you could use some construction adhesive and it will hold just fine.

Same way mine came loose, 4 wheeler. I hit it back in but with due time it started getting looser and looser, $50, 10 min of work- fixed.

Currently my truck does not have a bedliner. Do any bedliners come over the top or is this piece necessary regardless of bedliner. I am antichrome on my truck so chrome would be out of the picture for me too

Bed liners go up to that piece but don't cover it. So you'll want to get one either way.
