Ball joints and alignment were prob'ly 4 times the cost of new shocks. If your repair/front end shop didn't suggest new shocks first( or in addition to the other work) I think I'd find another shop.........

Shocks are critical to front end problems/performance and usually are the first thing to need replacement...... also usually the cheapest thing to correct.
His original symptom doesn't really point to shocks to me.

I guess they could have screwed up the front strut mount when they did the balljoints.

the truck and shocks have about 67K miles on them. highway driving, no off road. The truck is still under waranty so the ball joints were gratis. The alignment and rotor turning were not however. My dealership is going to let me deduct those charges from a new set of shocks, so im pretty happy. By the way, the shudder at around 55 was resolved by replacing the drive shaft. They also repaired a rear end axle seal that was leaking slightly. the "whole truck" shudder when hitting bumps is still present. I hope the shocks do the trick.

Did you ever figured out what was causing the shake and bake, mine does the same thing when I go over any bumps, feels like the whole front end wants to fall apart.

No... Never really got fixed. The dealer replaced my shocks for free. That helped I guess, but the problem never went away. I think there is a stabilizer or a buffer that keeps the bed from shimmying that'd broke or didn't get installed correctly. I finally gave up. no ford employee ever acknowledged the issue. Quite a club they have going there.

Good luck to you. Hope you have better luck than I did!
