I totally agree with you. There has to be someone out there who has done it.

allen engineering made a test kit, and sold it in brief production, and some sites have left over kits.

kenne bell has kits that bolt right up...check out the mustang 4.6 section.

Also any 4.6 mustang kit designed for the 01-04 model and the 4.6 f150 kits bolt up, again id advise the 01+, these are the latest pi motors and are the most like your f150. you will also need a custom tune. troyer has done them, and justin from vmp could also do it. a guy named trajeeme or something like that on another f150 forum has a few write ups about f150 4.6 supercharging. the issue he was having was air/air intercooling with the kits that arent designed for our trucks, he couldnt get the ic to mount in a good location and the piping was also a pain i guess, you dont want to make to many sudden or un-natural bends as you really dont want to create turbulance with boosted air. your best bet is to buy a tuner kit and then score some 42# injectors or at the very least 38# and then relocate the maf to blow thru post air/air intercooler, about 6 inches from the tb id say. the s/c set up with 6-8 pounds and a very mild but good dyno tune will be safe, many a mustang guy have done it, and its the same motor...minus the intake. you could even use the mustang intake if you figured out the throttle body issue. im not sure if 05+ etc stang tb's work with our trucks or if the parts interchange.

just some friendly advice, take the 4k for a kit, add 2k to it or more depending on tunes and the little this or that stuff, and your looking at what realistically your about to drop on the truck. also thats with you doing it, and assuming your handy, i would guess working time for me would be 10-14 hours...but i have done stuff like this before and have access to more then 10 lifts and nearly every tool id need.

With that 6k wouldn't just make more sense to get the 5.4L in a new truck, save up and modify from there???

Google Sean Hyland. He makes bad engines. He has a kit for the 4.6L that boasts 600+ hp 800 ftlb torque. Don't quote me on numbers, but I swear they are higher than any turbo/supercharger kit out there. And thats just heads and engine work. Saw the build up a while back on Horsepower TV (Love SpikeTV in the mornings on weekends). Can't get that much power out of the 5.4.

sean hyland is a very knowegdlable person when it tcomes to the 4.6 and mod motors in general, however he did have alot of, for lack of a better term, "issues", and if it was me, id stay away from him for that reason alone. but again, he does know a good amount and produces results.

roush chargers designed for the 01-04 work well and the kenne bell kit is hard to beat on the s/c front.

hellion and a few other turbo companies make some bad *** stuff for the mod motor and with little tweaks, the kit can be easily made to fit, we after all have tons of room compared to the stang.

the biggest cost issue, which is what prevents most from approaching it, after the inital investment of course, is the custom tuning that will result and could total up to a grand if issues arise. i gave, what i feel would be a good estimate in the 6k ball park.

a supercharged/turbo charged 4.6 shouldnt have any issues hanging with a 5.4 of compareable size/type power adder with a few pounds less of boost. the 5.4 will beat the 4.6 hands down, every day with the same kit on it because of the better heads, valvetrain, more cubes, better r&d/parts into the tranny and rear...ect. 5.4's are the better place to start, but if you have a 4.6, no reason you cant build that either. justin starkley has v6 mustangs that make gt500's look silly....im sure people flame him until they see what his 3.8 and 4.0 stangs can do.
