Question Super Charger Question

I bought a 2006 Ford F150 HD edition with 18k miles on it. Since the purchase I have noticed the HP is very low not even up to par with factory truck with no super charger. I would say from experience I am getting about 250 hp. I was told the truck should have about 450hp and not even close to that. I have tried to take it to several shops with no luck. I took it to ford to be put on machine and they told me I would have to replace SC before they could test it because the SC was not the stock one they put an after market (power works) SC on it. I also was told there was an after market programmer on it. I get about 11.4 city MPG and 13 mpg highway. I thought the cats were clogged because auto zone said the test showed cat failure and bank 1 to lean. My first question is how do I get the truck back to stock (the ECM or computer PCM) I want to purchase a programmer but have read you have to have stock settings. My second question is what can I do to diagnose any other issues with out having to pay a fortune just to see what's wrong with it. I tried the exhaust shop and they said they didn't know which cat was bad. Also any programmers that I should buy any recommendations would be great.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Just guessing, but I'd say someone bought themselves an HD edition without the SC...put an aftermarket SC on it that didn't come with a tune for it. Probably got it off someone else and not the Manufacturer of the SC. They bought an aftermarket tuner for it which won't work.

Personally, I'd contact the SC manufacturer and see if you can send in your PCM for re-calibration with the correct tune for the SC. If they won't do that, maybe you can purchase a tuner from them for the SC. If that won't work, you might hit up a custom tune shop and drop about a grand for a tune from them that should fix the problem.

I'm willing to bet you, you are generating boost, but the PCM isn't telling the waste gate to close....therefore....no boost...and you are running stock HP to the ground or less.

Just a guess though.

I would definitely continue to investigate it though. You will fall in love with it once you get that SC to working....GL!!!

I'm sure Blown Ford will be along to help more then I can.

I never heard of Powerworks but from what I could find it seems they went out of business. If that's the case, calling them will be of no help.

Personally, I would call Troyer Performance and talk to Mike Troyer & company about your issue. These guys know these trucks probably better then anyone on the planet.

It sounds like you have some issues to clear up before you decide on a new programmer but I will recommend a SCT X3 with Troyer custom or dyno tunes (if you are close enough).

Where are you located?

Chris sorry to hear about your troubles. First and foremost stop driving the truck! She's running lean and the pistons in these trucks won't tolerate it. Nor will the valves. The heat created will toast the motor if it isn't already damaged. Not trying to scare you it's just the facts. Do you know if the truck was supercharged from the factory? Or was it a naturally aspirated one that someone added the Powerworks system to? The more info you can find and provide the better.

Powerworks appears to be long gone. However the kit they sold is nothing more than the a Magna Charger M112 roots-type supercharger. This is a good blower and you should be able to get service and help from http://www.magnacharger.com/ whenever your in need of service or parts.

In the meantime you will want to contact Mike Troyer http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl as Sawman mentioned. You are going to need a custom tune and an SCT X-Cal 3. Mike can get you back to stock and then build a proper tune from there. Do you have any type of tuning tool for the truck? If so the stock program should be on it. You are looking somewhere between $600-1000 for the tuning and SCT 3. Money well spent and you will have a truck hauling more *** than you ever dreamed of. Mike knows the Magnachargers well. There's a guy named Brian living here in Durham NC running 12psi on his Magnacharger Troyer tuned.

Guessing your setup looks like this

That setup is nothing close to my Saleen SC in my HD truck so definitely an aftermarket issue.
