Default Stupid Question

I have an 07 XLT with factory tow package. I was planning on pulling a travel trailer with it, but someone told me I can't use the factory electric brake plug without some kind of brake controller add on to make it work. This doesn't seem right to me. Is this true? Or can I just plug the tralier and go?

You can pull the trailer with what's there and you'd have lights only. If you want the electric brakes, you'd have to get a brake controller.

Here's a review on some controllers.
