Anyone know what this noise is. Only does it just off idle in gear.

What does it sound like, a tick, whine, rattle, marching band or Elvis? In gear at idle can be many things, does it make the sound while it is cold, or at temperature? Does the sound continue over a set amount of RPMs, or while the truck is moving?

If the sound only arises while the truck is at temperature, and the sound is like a diesel, it could be bad VCT solenoids, or cam phasers. If it sounds like a marching band, your truck is demonically possessed. If it sounds like Elvis, he has possessed your truck. The last two require the services of an exorcist.

Seriously, we need some reference to the type of noise being made, and the circumstances surrounding the noise.

Yes I know a sound clip will help. My iPhone posted it anyway. After I found out it won't let me post a video from my phone and canceled the thread. :/ as soon as I get it posted on YouTube I'll get a link and post it.

Oh and just off idle in drive or reverse an not moving just with the brake held.

Any codes being thrown? It sounds like a VCT solenoid, maybe the phasers. Dont quote me on it.

Nope no codes. Got a mis fire under light accel/load. Cops and plugs been changed out already. I have another vid but I don't think it sounds as good I took this with my phone. I'll try to take one with a good camera.

if I unplug those plugs on the front of the motor in the valve cover those it would make the phasers or the VCT stop working an if there's no noise then i know its the problem?

I cannot say for sure, but you need to check to make sure your COPs are not loose. I have heard that can cause a misfire, but it should be throwing codes. Again, I am no expert.

I have heard two stories about unplugging the VCT solenoids. The first is that by doing so, if the VCT solenoids are bad, the sound will go away. The other story I have heard is that it will "FUBAR" the engine, as the oil pressure will not be properly regulated. I do not know which is the case, maybe someone will be kind enough to settle this.

If its the VCT one way to find out if it is, switch oils to a 10w-30 or 5w-30 and if the sound lessens its the VCT or cam equipment.
