Default Steering Wheel Dye

hey guys, I have an 05 Lariat with black leather covered steering wheel... the top was worn out and a big chunk of the leather was missing, so I cut the rest of the leather off to the seam. there's a rough material underneath the leather and it's rather uncomfortable. I don't like the wheel covers you can buy, and I looked at the leather covers you stitch on, but not real fond of those either. in my local Craigslist I found a brand new leather wrap wheel, with the radio and climate controls for $75, but it's tan... I've done some research around some people who have dyed their leather when fade, back to the original color, but I haven't found any who changed their wheel from tan to black... anybody who can give me some advice on this as to how well it worked and held up?

I'm not expert but I think that's asking a lot of the dye to change the color. I'm just not sure how it would soak into the material

Go with wheelskins. Trying to dye that leather won't be easy. I put one on my F-150 and have been very impressed with it. It takes about 30 minutes or so to stitch it on, but it feels real nice!

Default Well the marines in 63 made us dye everything

Issued brown leather shoes etc . Pentagon says all to black so they issued us black shoe dye . It did the trick for four years . A steering wheel leather should not be so bad .

I don't really want to put the wheel skins cover on, to me it looks kinda tacky, I would rather stay factory as much as possible. I've found mixed results with dyeing. the guy has a non leather wheel for $25 in my color, but I really like the leather look to match the seats...

Honestly just find a good condition takeout steering wheel from LKQ or a NOS off of ebay.

Yeah I'd advise finding a leather one already in your color. If you dye it then you've still gotta worry about all the portions that aren't leather that you won't be able to dye.
