Steering Issues
While driving my truck, every approximately quarter turn of the steering wheel it loses power steering for a couple of inches of the steering wheel turn. When I pull out of a turn, like making a right turn onto the street when you would normally let the steering wheel basically turn and track back on its own, it can't pull itself through these "none power" spots. I have to physically turn the wheel back straight like in a non power steering vehicle. When its not in these spots, it feels normal. If you were to simply change lanes, you would never know, but when complete turn of the wheel, you will hit about four of these spots that last for about 3 inches of the wheel turn.
Now I thought that the power steering pump was simply going out, after fighting to put the new one in, guess what, same problem. So now I don't know what other parts to check, anyone else had this issue. 2wd 2004 F150.

i have kinda the same problem while driving straight turning the wheel 3 or four inches then it like stops and you pull through then it snaps loose and you have to compensate the oversteer hope somebody knows im curious too.....sorry i have no ideas either
I've heard that the U-joints in the steering shaft from the firewall to the rack tend to bind after time. One quick fix is to soak them with WD-40 periodically. The other, as in the case with the previous owner of my truck, was to replace them (2) which is a rather straight-forward task.

Just did mine a couple of months ago by removing intermediate shaft and "freshening up"
1. Lock steering wheel in place so clock spring doesn't unwind. VERY IMPORTANT. I used seat belt to hold in place.
2. Mark position w/ a sharpie and remove intermediate shaft
3. Carefully pull boots from trunions and liberally spray WD 40 or similar into each trunion while moving in all directions untill operating smoothly.
4. Clean excess overspray and mess that was made by spray
5. I used spray lithium grease liberally sprayed into each trunion while moving shaft all around. Clean new mess up.
6. Intemediate shaft is now like trying to hold a piece of rope straight out, all floppy.
7. Reinstall shaft into truck.
8. Steers like a new truck now and save 260 smackers on a new shaft. Took about an hour to do.
