I'm hoping that someone with more knowledge than me can chime in on this:
I had to replace my starter; when I took off the bottom bolt, the studded end broke off that the ground wire normally attaches to. As a workaround, I put the ground wire between the bolt and the starter flange.
I'm thinking that it probably makes no difference, but would give me peace of mind if someone could confirm that this is an acceptable ground.
********* EDIT 8/31/21 *********
So I decided to just replace that broken bolt with a new one.
However the replacement bolt/stud was a little difficult to find. It doesn't seem to be readily available from most of the part sites. Or if it is, the site will claim that it doesn't fit a 2005 4.6L
I finally found the part on ebay and took a chance hoping it was the right size, and it was. So if anyone comes across this post in the future for the same reason, the part number is: W704941-S437M (at least that's what the package says)
I also had to buy a new flanged "whiz nut" at the hardware store
