Default standard air filter replacement...

has anyone found a stock type air filter that they find may be better than an OEM???...I'm not looking for non existent horsepower gains or anything...

I'm about to replace the FRAM Extra Guard filter in mine...when I got the truck a Chinese made PurePro filter was in place and was a poor fit as well as dirty and the quick replacement was the FRAM...I have no complaints with the FRAM but I have seen several other choices available and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this...

locally I can find the OEM Motorcraft, FRAM Extra Guard, FRAM Ultra Guard (at Walmart) as well as the Champion Labs made SuperTech all within a couple bucks of each other...

I tried a search and came up with no insight (which may mean the OEM or whatever is just fine) but thought I'd ask here

Any experience or help you care to share is appreciated...

I prefer Wix or Motorcraft for air filters. Just resist the urge to put any K&N or any other washable trash in there, I can vouch for their poor filtering from experience.

Fram’s quality has become garbage IMO. Wix makes a good quality filter for the price or as stated, you can’t go wrong with Motocraft.

thanks for the replies...I guess it is not too important to garner a bunch of responses...I have no interest in K&N or any oiled air filters...as to FRAM, I have no complaints in the quality department on the Extra Guard...I can't find much information on Walmart SuperTech filters beyond they are made by Champion Labs in the USA...

I think based on finding some dirt and debris outside the filter in the air box that I'll give the OEM Motorcraft a try...

thanks again for your feedback

Bill

I've run the OEM motorcraft since 2006 in mine, they fit great and filter well.

I recently switch to an oiled type though

took a look at an OEM Motorcraft filter and the Fram Extra Guard and other than the different numbering on the side they look identical right down to the colored lines along the golden colored filter paper...both products of Mexico as well...

thanks for your feedback guys...
