Default Speedo lens

For those of you that have swapped out the speedo for one with a tach, does the lens come off of the speedo. The real question is, I would like to replace a scratched cover with a new one. I looked online for a replacement cover, and did not see one available. But I do have a good used one to make the swap, if it is replaceable.

I would think that it comes off, as that would be the only way to service it.

While I've swapped several clusters, I've never removed the lens, but it has locking "clips at each lower corner, so it must come off. Also, I see that there are alluminum face plates that can be installed as well.

What I'm not sure about though is if there's a small amount of sealant on the lens. I have read where folks have heated up the headlight assemblies in their oven to remove the clear lenses, however I don't think (and would not want to do) this is nessesary for the cluster lens cover.

Before you attempt the lens removal, try some plastic lens cleaner, available at an auto parts store. It works great for removing small surface scratches, as well as fogging and dis-coloration. I've used it for years on headlight lenses (had an old Volvo that had fogged headlight lenses; made them look like new).

Thanks for the info, I guess I need to just tear into it and see what I come up with. The scratches are too deep to polish out, so I will need to replace it.

I know this thread is ancient and the OP hasn't logged on in 2+ years but I'm going through the exact same thing. Anybody successfully removed the lens? I just got a FX4 cluster for free but the lens has some really bad scratches in it.
