Default Spark Plugs

O.K. I have a 2004 F150 4.6L 2 valve. I bought this truck not too long ago and right now it has 141,000 miles on it. I need to change the plugs in it. I have heard that this is a nightmare to get the plugs out without pulling the threads with them. I heard there's only like 3 threads in the heads for the plugs. I started on the first one and the boot on the coilpack came off. So I tried to get it out with a pair on pliers but it keeps ripping off in chunks on me. So now I am clueless as to how I am suppose to get the boot out of the hole. And this is the first one and I haven't even got to the whole plug bit yet. Any help on this would be appreciated. I hope the parts store gave me the right plugs also. They are NGK TR55

Your a new member (at least from the number of posts you have), so welcome!

Please do a search. If there's one subject that has the record for the most frequently asked question on this forum, the 5.4 spark plug would reign as king!

Your search shall net you hundreds of responses to your plug issue, not nessesarily in this order:

1) The special tools you may need
2) The plug types to replace with
3) the place to buy the chicken bones that you shake over the engine
while chanting "come out evil plugs, come out"
4) A community of fellow 5.4 owners that you can grieve with.
I believe they have started weekly meetings where they now drink
heavily.

I talked to a guy when I was in Lowes (and we won't go there) about the 04-07 5.4 spark plugs and he laughed. He said that so far he has had only problems with the 04-06's. But, every one has had at least 1 break off in the head. He also mentioned something about soaking
with engine cleaner prier to removng. HUH never heard that one.

I got out the troll doll just to see if it would do any good.
