i've upgraded my tires and crap and have never put new spare under there cause i didn't know if it would fit. and i've been too buisy, lazy and now deployed to see if it would fit. has anyone put a larger tire in the spare spot? what fits?

 

Yes! Glad you asked! I bet there are only a handful who have a fullsize spare when going with bigger tires. This is a big deal if you have a limited slip diff in the rear. I have a used 35x12.5 mounted on the oem spare rim under my truck. I dont think anything larger would fit (correct me if I am wrong here). I was a little concerned about the weight of this tire and worry about the cable snapping, so I currently have it strap to the frame as well until I can figure out how to better secure it. I think I am going to use chain...

Confirm the size your spare rim and go to any tire shop and ask if you can dive in their dumpster. There should be no reason for you to pay for their discards.

 

thanks for the input. i meant to do it while i was home before deploying and told the wife to do it months and months ago, but of course she has thought of other things to do instead. if you put on a 35x12.5, i see no reason i can't put another 305/70/17 under there. and yes, i put them on stock rims too so that shouldn't be a problem either. thank you.

 

thanks for the input steve. if you got a 35x12.5, then me putting another 305/70/17 on a stock rim should fit just fine. i'm just glad it hasn't been needed while i was gone, my wife wouldn't have kicked herself in the **** with this. then again, i should have done it when i did the lift and all.

315/70/17 fits in my spare location. Only "issue" is my receiver won't slide into the hitch fully. I have to use the outer pin hole.
