Default Spare Tire

So I just got some new tires. Upgraded my size to 265/70/17's, which gave me just under 2 inches of additional height. My question is what to do about the spare tire? Its the stock 235/70/17 so would it still ok to use if I need it even though the other 3 tires are larger? Or should I just remove it from under the truck and cut down on my weight, maybe save a little gas?

I wouldn't, I think you would be looking to cause more issues if you used that spare.

I personally tossed/sold my spare and have Roadside Assistance on speed dial!

I wouldn't use it on the back axle, so if you get a flat on the back, switch the front to the back and use it on the front. And then x2 cvboy14.

Yeah, I've got road hazzard warranty on the new tires so it wouldn't be on the road long before it got replaced. Maybe a stupid quesrion, but why not on the rear axel?

I think his arguement is that it's the drive axle, but I'd think having it on the front would be worse and create steering issues.

i think that you would be fine to use the spare..
think of it this way, all those cars out there with the little donuts for spares, they drive on them and they are smaller... And they come straight from the dealer like that. Just use the same precautions, dont go too fast or do any erratic driving

This question keeps coming up. Some say to put the spare in the front, some say the back. I don't know which is better.

Roadside assistance doesn't work if you're camping or offroading, and I don't know how many different size tires they carry anyway. Basically, just drive slow until you get to a tire shop.

I just picked up a full size spare 20 minutes ago, by the way. It cost me a several hundred bucks, but if I get a flat, I'll just change it out and continue on. I would hate for an entire weekend of offroading to be ruined by a flat tire.

ok here is the deal, u can use the spare on a car because they r only 2 wheel drive, and u should always put the spare on the front, on a 4x4 u should never use a smaller tire, the extra rotation of the tire is very harmfull to transfer case and or the tranny, remember automatic trannys use clutchs internaly and u r forcing them to slip even when the oil pressure is trying to make them catch, unless u r 100% sure ur front axels r not turning do NOT use a diferent size tire, ur better of going to the scrap yard and getting a tire that matches, even if its finished it well get u where ur going and it could save u thousands of dollars in repairs down the line.
