Default so what happens if you put off valve train repair?

Well even with 40w I still have a little bit of timing chain slap noise. The truck has 160k and im thinking of putting it off until it needs a rebuild and just replacing the timing set and phasers then.

Can letting it go cause any damages to anything other than the parts I plan to replace anyway?

Putting off repairs result in the same thing, regardless of the system or components. You'll end up with more expensive repairs at a later date.
