Default So very very sad.

I was dropping off a late model Mustang today and another guy pulled up with a new F350 on his truck. He said the owner had the oil changed at Jiffy Lube and the tech didnt tighten the plug and it lost the oil. The motor was toast. It had just 3000 miles on it.
It was sad to see such a nice truck with its heart cut out.
I guess you get what you pay for. One reason I change my own oil.

I hate those quickie lube places - personal experiences include a cross-threaded drain plug on the truck, and the tie rods that failed (well, got real sloppy) on a Cavalier due to the inverted rack & pinion - tech couldn't see the grease fittings from the pit during the numerous oil changes I had done there.

Do these places intentionally look for the idiots with the lowest brain cell count?

That's why I do my own too. Seen too many cases of old oil filter o-rings left stuck to block leading to major oil loss. Also seen cases where after several trips to a quick lube a guy decides to do it himself only to find a rubber press in plug where his drain plug is supposed to be cause they stripped the threads but kept it as their dirty little secret. Also don't trust that you'll always get the oil you request out of those bulk tanks with the gas pump type fillers. And like I've said elsewhere, I enjoy climbing under my truck. It puts my mind at ease and I guess it gives me a sense of pride knowing it's done right & I did it.

i didnt work at a jiffy lube. But i worked at a tire/mechanic/ lube and oil shop. I did tires, oil, and brakes. and light mechanic work.

When i first started there. Me and this other guy where alternating on a oil change cuz we were trying to get alot done at the same time. just kinda pickin up the slack. Yea...there was this one time a goverment veh. I thought i got the oil filter tight, Well it was in a hard to get place. I was a half a turn off tight. Started it up, took about 5 seconds or less for oil to come spraying out. shut it down. Pushed itback up on he lift. and started all over again.

We had this one customer named gary. real **** about his car. the type that thought he knew alot and tried to tell me how to do my job....long story short we were slammed, it was just me and a new guy i was training and we had a 2 sets of 4 tires and 1 set of 6 tires going on in the 3 bays to the left of us. It was just me and him doing all that. With the dude standing there over my shoulder. I forgot to greese the front end. and drove it around the front. Instead of letting me know i forgot it, he ran to my boss. So when i went back around i didnt drive it on the lift. I just got under it...it was on a 3 inch lift so not that hard to get under.. He freaked out cuz he couldnt see me do it...went to go bakc around and he threw a 3 ft long pipe wrench at me.... I believe that is the only time ive gone off on a customer...

I got a bunch of good ones like this. Like a lady who was paranoid. saying her car was bouncing and we up when balancing...or her car was going to fall off the lift, But she was just hitting bumps......

I had a friend that worked at one place similar and I would stop in sometimes. Or hear stories even. I would never go there for an oil change. I change my own oil. Even if you dont want to do it, take it the dealer and pay the extra bucks.

jiffy lubes and places like that hire people off the street that dont know what they are doing. They probly ask "have you ever driven a car?" and if they say yes than they are a new mechanic! Pretty easy test haha! Ive never had anyone anywhere do any work on any of my vehicles.
