Default Slip Yoke Issue...

I have my 2007 lariat @ the dealer now and they are fixing the annoying slip yoke "Clunk". I know this is a pretty common issue but I had a hard time swallowing the fact that they are charging me to fix such an issue.

Has anyone had the dealer fix it for free?

Just an update.... The clunk is gone and the truck feels great again. The cost Was $150. Now that I know what it is I'll be doing it myself next time if it returns.

All they do is remove the driveshaft (4 bolts with an impact) and apply some grease to the driveshaft splines. Much cheaper to do it yourself.

Absolutely!

Hopefully someone else who might be having the same issue will see this before they take it to the dealer and save themselves some $$$.

The dealer originally quoted me double what I Paid and I said no way. If I had taken my truck in for that issue only, I would have taken it home and saved the $150 but I was having some other things done and for the sake of getting it all done in the time I had, Paying the $150 was worth it for me.

The part number for the slip yoke grease is 5L3Z-19A506-A. That will get you a syringe with 10 grams of grease which is enough for one application. I did this recently on my truck. I wasn't having problems; at 73K miles it was just preventative maintenance.

It can cause that on a 4x2 or 4x4, yes.

Yes, It was a very strong "clunk" on mine when taking off and slowing down.

I don't know about the 4wd trucks, Mine is a 2wd. It is an issue with the trucks using a two piece shaft.

Could this also cause a squeak on acceleration and while holding the gas in drive only? Very light squeak.
