Should a throttle body?
Need replacing after 34K miles?
I have a 2005 F150 w/ 34k miles and my dealer says the Throttle body needs replacing? I have owned the truck for 38 months and the dealer wants to charge me $400+ for the repair!!!
I am wrong to think that they should take care of this considering a TSB has been issued concerning the vehicle stalling and replacement of the TSB is recommended under certain conditions? My vehicle has been stalling and has had all of the symptoms noted in TSB 08-5-13.
I would think that a 35K vehicle shouldn't have a tB wear out at 34K.

Guess I got screwed!!. Doesn't surprise me with my dealer though. I did have it out the the SM and managed to get a reduced price on the part and he took care of the labor.
Funny, I had asked to get my part back when I placed the order. I was so mad, that I had forgot about it until about an hour after I picked the truck up. Call the dealer back and guess what, the mechanic threw it away.

I've never had to replace a TB on any vehicle until I bought my wife a Ford. She has an 05 Freestyle that the TB needed replaced at 28k. It was under warranty so I didn't make a stink about it though it is highly unusual. My guess is the TPS went bad and they probably rivet them on at the factory like so many other mfrs do. Still didn't stop me from buying my F150 though! Guess I'm a glutton for punishment
My 06 F150 Had The Throttle Body Replaced Due To The Battery Being Unhooked Sludge Had Built Up And The Pcm Could Not Correct The Idle Due To It It Also Stalled And The Tb Was Replaced As Well As The Pcm Updated
The only time I've had trouble with a throttle body is after years of use; the brass shaft wears and causes "outside, unregistered air" to enter the throttle body, messing up the ECM, as it cannot "read" this incoming air. The idle is usually irratic, acting like a large vacuum leak.
34K is low mileage for one of these to fail, assuming it was not removed, abused, or exposed to an extreemly dirty air filter (or lack of one).

I am having the same issue on my 2005 F150. The place I brought it to said I need to replace the entire throttle body but the code is saying it is just the sensor. Anyone have any idea if I can just buy the $60 sensor or do I need to buy a whole new TB. The place I go to said it would be around $700 to fix and I'm not putting that much into it.

Only way to know is for you to remove the TB and check for wear; look at the shaft that the butterfly valce in the bore is attached to. Check to see if there is any end to end or side movement, indicating wear and allowing air to enter via the shaft ends. If you're not qualified to do this, then you're kinda stuck with what you've been told.
If you don't feel comfortable checking for end play wear, then take it to another shop for a second opinion.
