Default Which should i pick? 4.6 or 5.4?

Hey guys, haven't been on in awhile but it has come to point to where i am looking for a upgrade from my 2000 ford (4.2) Its been good to me but now it will become the family truck. I've been researching for days and hours to find the next truck and it has come down to the 2008 FX2 Crew-cab but i run into a problem.

My old truck gets about 14 city and 19 highway on paper. The trucks I'm looking at now is gets around 13 city 17-18 highway. Doesn't bother me much with some mods ill manage but i don't know whether to go with a 4x4 or just a standard FX2 sport. i don't go off road much but to have the ability to is something i like to have but don't need...idk lol but they both have same mpg (on paper) Secondly they have two different engine sizes, 4.6 or 5.4 im leaning to the 5four because of the power but idk if mpg will bother me on that. 4.6 just doesn't seem to be powerful enough in my eyes.

So i honestly just need some opinions and some ideas to help with my choice. In few months ill be shopping so guys i really need some insight!

Oh, yes ill be going to the country side and hopefully after i get my truck i will be hauling a dune buggy and maybe some quads if that helps ya'll out. Thanks! Appreciate any comments!

4.6 4x4 but if u lifted would change gears from 3:73 to 4:10 if u run 35 inch tires you would have plenty of power

I'd go for the FX4 5.4 if I were you. Hell, that's just what I got. It's better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

Not a big difference in gas mileage between the 5.4 and the 4.6.
So much more torque with the 5.4 than the 4.6. My truck has the 4.6 so I know about that engine.
Unless you live in the cold climates, or off road lots a 2wd should do fine.
4.6 <250 hp and <300 ft lbs torque stock
5.4 300 hp and >300 ft lbs torque stock

I'd get the 5.4.... Ive driven a large number of these trucks before I found the one I wanted.... The 4.6 just felt weak after driving a 5.4.... I drove 1 snappy 4.6, but it was a 2wd scab, and I wanted a screw....
