Should I buy this 2005 Lariat?
So the backstory is that I previously had an '06 XLT SCrew 4x4 that I drove from about 145k miles until 190k miles. I loved the truck and never had any problems, however I sold it to buy a wrangler. Now I am wanting to get a truck again, but they are just so dang expensive down where I am from. An old friend from high school has a small used car lot, and he has a 2005 Lariat for sale for $9600 right now. It has 163k miles, and from the looks of it (haven't driven it yet) is in extremely good condition. It's got the center console with shifter, sunroof, leather, back up sensors, and all the other works. I think that I could talk him down some on the price. Do y'all think it would be worth pursuing this truck, or is it too old and too many miles to bother with it?

I bought this 2006 Lariat 4x4 about four years ago for $10.5. Blue book was around $12k. It reeked of cigarettes and had 157K miles. The ac didn't work.
It's a great truck. The smell is gone and I've done lots to fix it up. Recently at around 187K miles I had the timing change job done and everything else like phasers, water pump, etc. That was $3500 but the truck runs and sounds great now.

I just bought an 08 lariat with 280K on it.
I know now most of you would think I’m nuts but it was well taken care of.
Look ok at the cost outright and account for the possibility of having to do a timing chain and phaser replacement at around 200K. A lot of these trucks have that issue. It’s going to run ~2K - 4K unless you’re an advanced DIY guy—or super cheap like me and willing to risk an entire weekend doing the job yourself.
With th gas prices higher again- you can very likely get a bigger discount because demand is going down for these suckers.
