Question Shorter shocks for lowered FX2

Hey there, I have a 2008 FX2, basically stock, except for a 4" drop in the rear. Well, it seems I need new shocks now as the old ones don't seem to be absorbing as they should. When I lowered it 4", should I have installed shorter shocks at that time? And where can I find new shocks with coilover helper springs that are about 4" shorter than stock? Or, if that's not really an option, then how about stock style shock obsorbers that are 4" shorter.
I pull a trailer with multiple golf carts or atvs loaded on, but I don't put too much of a load in the bed, so payload capacity is not too critical.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
