Default Shocks or struts cant find an answer, help!

Hey guys I've been looking and can't find an answer. Can a just buy shocks on my 05 or do I havta buy struts and shocks together? I'm confused on this. Also can I get bilstein 5100s on top of my 3 inch level I'm gonna be putting on?

Shocks go in the back and struts up front. As far as 5100's with the level. I believe you can as long as they're set at setting 0.
But I'm not 100%. I'm sure someone else can help out with that question

You can put a new shock in the "strut assembly." I.e. the strut assembly = the shock + the spring

Yeah you can only put the 3" level on top of the bilsteins if they are set at the stock height. You cannot put them at 2" and also run your spacer. You wont be able to even get the strut assembly back into the truck.

Thanks guys, does anyone know how hard it is to replace the shock in the strut?

Kind of hairy as the spring is under a lot of compression. The Autozone/Advance Auto rentable spring compressors are pushing it. It seemed to dangerous for my liking and just brought mine to a shop.

hahaha...alright here ya go. The shock is most known as the rear "unit". The front assembly also called a coilover or strut assembly consists of the strut, which is like a shock but has a coil spring attached.

So the front is strut and coil spring, and the rear is the shock. easiest way to explain it. haha
