im looking at replacing my shocks on my 04 fx4. i want to keep it all at the same height and some what of a durable shock for light off roading as well as a smooth ride ( as smooth as a cadillac if possible). any suggestions?

LOL, I doubt you will ever find a shock as smooth as a caddy but I put the bilstein 5100shocks on the truck and they ride very firm but at the same time smooth.

you might be best at getting the normal bilstein shocks and they would be your best bet IMO.

really when they wear out. if you are getting excessive bouncing you need new shocks.

I am not sure if this is true but I have heard these shocks are complete crap after 30-40k miles the guy at the shop said that my struts had about half life left when they were installing the bilsteins and I only have 16k on my truck now.

I wouldn't give them that long, I could completely compress my rear shocks by hand when I took them off and that was in the 45K range. I've got Icon shocks in the rear and they firmed it up just a tad but the big thing for me is they keep the rear end from bouncing around all over the place when I hit a large bump.
