Shifting Problem going into OD
#11
my transmission is doing the same thing. I took it to the shop and had the tranny serviced with a filter change and installed a new throttle position sensor just in case. My transmission shifts a lot smoother but, the problem with the overdrive slipping still persists. Curious as to what the results will be after you go to the shop again

I plan on getting mine into Ford today. I am hoping the powertrain warranty will cover whatever it is and they don't try to give me the runaround.

How many miles does your 07 have? Mine did the exact same thing and it was due to a coil went bad and was causing a misfire. Change out the coil and plugs and you should be good to go.

^^^^^^^^^^^ the mechanic also mentioned this option to me too since the service didn't correct the problem. Mentioned that he worked on a f-250 with the same problem and it turned out to be 2x ignition could went out cause it requires more throttle to keep the overdrive shifting smooth on a hill. Worth a try if nothing else

If you change the plugs get ready for a sticker shock...I've heard a plug change can run from $400 to $850. (Mine I think was around $500. I had some other work done so I cannot tell you the exact amount.) The plugs have a defect and can break so mechanics will charge you the labor it takes to get them out. You can do it yourself but I did not want to risk damaging the truck.
I'm pretty sure its the coil that went bad, especially if you got 70-80K miles on the truck. Its quite a common problem.
I changed the coil and plugs since the mechanic was already in there and due to the high mileage.

87,xxx miles. I did think about that and they already changed two of them out before my extended warranty expired. It could be a misfire, but I would think that would happen at w.o.t. I can stomp it and it flat out gets it...

So did mine...only had the issue when the truck was attempting to engage OD.

The dealer I go to uses some Mopar Chemical that is like Liquid Wrench on meth! Soaks the plugs for about half a day with a couple applications. Usually has good luck with removing plugs carefully and slowly. I guess I may have to look into getting the other 6 changed...

I would because i thought my trans was in the works of going out and after plenty of researching on here i had found some guys that were having the same issues and it was a misfire at low rpm under load so i started with the cheapest fix and it worked.. changed plugs myself and saved $
