Default Shifter trigger button stuck

I only find threads regarding the entire shifter being stuck in park. Ever since I have owned my truck, the silver button is stuck in the "pulled in" position and seems like it sometimes has to force the shifter through each gear. Not sure if I need to replace the button only or the entire shifter ****.

Any help?

Taking ours apart (07 and 08) is really easy. The chrome button "snaps" out if you get a small screwdriver under the top of it. I suggest putting it into the "1" position. Then a star set screw holds the handle part on. Take that part off and look at the rod and spring (although I am not sure how to inspect that part). Not sure how yours at such low mileage is bad. Mine is great at 154k. I painted my handle black is why I know how to take it apart. Sounds like a spring is wore out.

Thanks! I'll have to try that next week while im off work. If there is a spring that would make sense as to why it stays depressed and doesn't push it back out while not shifting.
