Default shift cable attachment?

Not too long ago I noticed my shifter was loose and my truck wasn't shifting gears. I hopped underneath and noticed my shifter cable was hanging off the shifter module, or whatever it is. Don't really know the correct term for that little deal. Anyway, now in order for me to shift to reverse from drive, I have to put it in park first, then shift in reverse. It kinda seems like there should be some type of rubber grommet inside the shift wire. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Default yes

I think it was from advance auto parts. there are 5 grommets one will fit. the beveled end goes into the cable end (snaps in) and then put it over the tranny shift lever and snap it on. it took me 5min to fix. good luck. it happened to me last week. these are made for different year ford trucks.

Yeah sorry, forgot to post it. Works like a charm. Now I gotta get out of my shifting habit...
