Shaking noise when slowing down or idle.
Just found this forum, so it's my first post.
I have a 2006 with a 5.4 Triton in it, love the vehicle. Recently my truck starts to have a loud rattling sound when coming to a stop then at idle when stopped. Last summer I changed all my plugs out, just recently the issue started after I did a couple of longer drives, 2hr each way. No codes were thrown at that time, finally, a code was thrown and it said the camshaft position sensors were the issue of the code. I changed them both and still have the issue, also just changed out my alternator since that went out also. Still, the loud rattling sound is there, which will disappear when I push the accelerator a bit. When I open the hood when it's rattling the engine will be visibly shaking, when pushing the accelerator a couple of time the rattling will stop and the engine will stop shaking. There are also times when the rattling is going the engine will cut off.
Any ideas on this?
Thanks

What weight oil do you run?
does it run smooth at a cold start and issues appear after warming up, or is the issue always there when running.
I would say if you are still running 5w20 try changing oil and going up to 5w30 or 0w40 as low oil pressure is the cause of many of these issues.
You can test to see if the problem goes away by unplugging the VCT solenoids as they will deactivate the phasers and they should lock in at base timing.
If this offers an improvement by making the roughness and stalling and noises go away the next step is to replace the VCT solenoids as these can be done without removing valve covers on an 06, and is relatively easy.
If after doing both the above there are still noises and issues the phaser/tensioners/oil pump etc would be the next step, but before ordering parts it pays to remove valve covers and inspect cam caps for scoring and signs of damage to the cam journals to make sure the damages arent beyond repair..
Look up a user named fordtechmakuloco on youtube he has videos showing how to change vct solenoids and all the other stuff I mentioned step by step and explanations of how the things are supposed to work.
Sounds like the typical phaser/vct problems appearing.
