Default Scanner Installation

Just finished installing my police scanner so I'll share what I did in case anyone is looking for ideas. I mounted the scanner to the stowage compartment door in the overhead console. It will still partially open but I don't use it anyway. In order to make it as securely mounted as possible I removed the top cover from the scanner and mounted the cover directly to the overhead console with 4 short screws. Then I mounted the scanner back to the cover. This way no mounting bracket is needed and the scanner is solidly mounted. I ran the power cable up into the headliner and over to the passenger side A-pillar. Then straight down to the fuse panel where I hooked it to the accessory delay circuit. I permanently mounted the antenna on the top center of the roof. (This means I drilled a hole.) At this location I only needed about 2 feet of antenna cable. My antenna came with 17 feet of cable so I cut off 15 feet and soldered a new connector on it. My ears aren't too good so this location puts the scanner speaker less than 2 feet from my right ear so I won't be needing an external speaker this time. This setup might also work for a CB. No mounting bracket needed.
I made two quarter inch holes for power and antenna cables.

I had that exact same scanner as you, I loved that little guy, it was awesome. Nice work on the install. I'm taking it that you screwed down from inside the door to the top of the unit? It is sitting pretty flush the the door right.

Yes it is flush. It can't shake around like they do with a mounting bracket. Plus it's a little higher so someone hopefully won't hit their head on it. I screwed from the outside in. The screws were just long enough that they went through the plastic but not the foam padding inside. This is the third one of these I've had. Just got this one off eBay for $31 w/free shipping. I hate the newer scanners. You need instructions to just about do anything. These old BC-560XLT's you don't need any instructions. Luckily the local emergency services haven't gone digital.
