Rough idle / safe mode
Im having a few issues with my 2008 f150 triton
check engine light came on one day. So i checked for codes, the following codes are what I have listed in the order the scanner gave.
p2195- detecting the O2 sensor signal stuck lean for bank 1 sensor 1. The engine has tried to lean out a rich condition and failed
p0053 - the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Resistance is out of range on engine bank 1 (side of engine with cylinder #1) and the sensor upstream or in front of the catalytic converter.
Now as far as symptoms go
-mildly rough idle in on and off spurts
-often when excellorating slowly you can hear and feel the poor acceleration and vibration.
biggest issue is if the truck sits in park or idles for 20+ minutes the service now light comes on and the truck goes into safe mode causing performance issues. Very rough performance accelerating comparable to backing into a tree at 5 mph.
So what I do as a temporary fix to get to where I'm going is throw it in nutual wile coasting, turn off the engine and than restart the engine put it back in drive and continue on. At that point it will go back into safe mode every time I stop at a light or am driving at low speeds.
Also I've noticed that if I'm driving with the defrost on (cold) it doesn't go in to safe mode at all. I still have the mildly rough idle but I could sit with the truck running all day with the cold defrost on and it doesn't go into safe mode. I'm not sure how or why that has any effect. I noticed it by accident and have tested it a hand full of times....however I'm not a big fan of really cold morning drives... Any ways
so far what I've done in attempt to correct the issues are
-replacing the upstream o2 sensor
-cleaning the maf sensor
-cleaning out the throttle body
-replaced all spark plugs and cables/cylinder coils
side note: I've noticed an issue with the fuel pump gauge, when I fill the tank up the gauge drops to empty and continuously signals low fuel for about 15-30 miles than the needle goes to it's correct position.

When you say you swapped the O2 sensor, and this may sound dumb, but did you do the driver or passenger side upstream? That code is for the passenger side. Could also be the heater circuit that needs to be swapped out.
It was the driver side that I replaced. To be honest I didn't know there was 2 sets of up and down streams so that wasn't a dumb question lol it just learned me something new. Thank you for that.
I pulled the passenger aide upstream sensor out and it was toast. So I'll pick up a replacement tomorrow and get It in and see how it goes.
thanks again .I'll update after the replacment
