Rough idle and burning smell
New to the forum; glad to be here. Tried searching for my problem but came up empty and was wondering if I might get some help.
My 2004 Ford F150 V8 4.6L is running rough and when I turn it off and get out I can smell a strong burning smell, which smells to me like electrical based or maybe rubber (just my sense of smell and might not be accurate). I can really smell it when I walk around to the passenger side. I can feel it running rough when I accelerate but it doesn't keep me from running it 80 MPH on the highway. As I slow down and stop at a red light I can feel it idling rough and shaking a bit, but it has never stalled.
I connected my OBD II scanner to it and it came up with no codes and there are no idiot lights on inside the cab. I'm totally guessing at what it might be now and was hoping for some help. I was thinking O2 sensor, but wouldn't I get a code? Maybe a coil? Catalytic converter? Just what the heck is burning? I hate to throw money at it when I don't know the cause. Any help would be appreciated.
