Default Rough Idle?

From inside my truck it has gotten a little rough...not too bad but feels like I'm driving a diesel. I took a video here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGQgx...ature=youtu.be

I changed my spark plugs about 5,000 miles ago, had an issue with a rough idle back then right after the change and had a code pop up...turned out one of the spark plugs wasn't tightened all the way up. Fixed that issue. So if anybody could look at this video and give me tips I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Sounds kind of like mine, I too have a slightly rough idle, like a very mild misfire but with no codes and I have replaced plugs and coils, FPDM, fuel filter, VCTs, and air filter, along with synthetic oil change with motorcraft filter.

I think mine is caused by one or both cam phasers needing replaced, and possibly the timing chain set as well. Do you get any type of rattle at cold startup after the truck has sat for awhile? If you look down your oil fill tube while the truck is running, what does the cam phaser look like, is it turning, shaking back and forth, or locked tight? Mine shakes back and forth while the tip spins, and this seems to correlate with the rough idle as it kicks back and forth (reluctor ring??). I don't know how bad it is to continue driving the truck like this. How many miles do you have on your truck? Did you use motorcraft plugs (SP515)?

Obviously you have some cam phaser issues but you can probably live with it. I would start by cleaning the MAF and throttle body. It did wonders to my idle roughness. And its really cheap. Then, get back to us.

What plugs did you put in? aftermarket ones have been known to misfire but I haven't had any issues with my champions after 40,000 km. But there have been issues...

1stTruckGuy -- I will look into that, no issues at cold start though

CoreyLax -- cleaned MAF sensor and got dark, will work on throttle body tomorrow. I put motorcraft plugs in, 8 new ones, with 8 new COPs, this was ~5-6,000 miles ago

Ok so I took the steps mentioned above to no avail. Took my truck to the dealer to get a diagnosis to then come here and research the options. These are the notes from the tech/service advisor:

"PPT found L/H camshaft unable to hold steady and engine has excessive valvetrain noise. Recommend teardown and inspect. Recommend teardown to timing area and valve covers for inspection of cam timing components. Est labor for tear down 14.5 hrs $1798.00, unsure of parts needed until torn down."

Now I am happy that I have been able to get this narrowed down, but am I screwed here? Is camshaft related stuff do-able without the dealer? If anybody could help I'd greatly appreciate it.
