Default Road Tar...Ugh...

Does anyone have a special way to get Road Tar off a truck? Recently they were oiling the rd where i live and it sprayed up all over the hood and side of my truck right after the guy behind me smacked into me becuase he could'nt stop his car...Luckily no damage to my Truck except for the stupid tar that just doesnt seem to want to come off...I've tried the Bug and Tar Remover i bought from the local auto parts store but just does not seem to be working...Any hints???

try using that "Goof Off" stuff or "goo be gone". let it sit in(soak) for a bit before trying to remove it. Thats what i use and a bit of elbow grease!!

I would try a clay bar first since it's the safest route you can go. IF you do go the goo gone route make sure to put wax on after you are done.

Have heard that WD-40 works on this tar issue.

Also, saw on Modern Marvels, this guy put tar and stuff all over a $165,000 Porsche. He was of course promoting his car care products, but he used Mother's products to remove the gunk that he put on the car.

I have also used WD-40 in the past with some success. I have also used gasoline on my white F150 to get road tar off. I had to rub it in and let it soak for a few minutes, it took a couple of passes, but it worked well and didn't affect the paint. As mentioned above, make sure you hit it with some wax afterward, anything that will remove the tar will remove all of the wax.
