Default Rivet Grille

So I'm trying to replace my "H" bar (work truck lol) grille with a rivet grille. Thought it would be simple but of course it wasn't. Looked it up and I guess I'm supposed to cut the old one out but leave the surround and outer plastic, seems stupid to me. But I watched some videos of installing the smittybuilt one and it seemed to make sense with cutting it. Just looking for advice or anybody who's done this before.

Yup you have to cut them unless you bought one with the surround already attached.
