Default Retractable bed step from 2012 install on 2005

I bought some bed steps that came off a 2012. And I plan to install them on my 2005 F150. I know the holes and slots are not there. But I don't seem to see a reason I can install them on my 2005 F150 with a little fabrication work. I plan to work on it this weekend if not the next.

If anyone has any information, or has done this. Feel free to share your experience with me. So far it looks like I'm the first.

I will post pics of the process

Well I got the steps on and it wasn't to hard at all. The 2nd side needs a little adjustment. But beside that, Worked out well. I'm going to throw some pictures on right now and I'll give more detail later. Feel free to ask questions.

Looks nice, I would be afraid to cut a whole in my frame though.

IMO I would have tried large self tapping screw before cutting holes, but it still looks good.

I still need to clean it up, but self tappers would not have lasted with the thin tube frame. At least not the way I would want. The last thing I want it a 370$ step falling off on the highway. Plus I'm around 200 lbs and the step are not just for looks. I already use them very often. And being an engineer, high vibration and high stress don't get alone with self tapping screws.

My bad Bro, didn't realize you were an engineer. Guess I'll head back to my mobile home now.

Hope it's a double wide at least lol. I'm just kidding. But I'm not looking to have a beef on here, just help people make the trucks they way they want them. But I have seen some bad thing happen with self tappers. Just be carful with those.

I have the flip step under my driver side bumper that I purchased from AMP Research and I love it, plus it comes in handy with my lift ! I'll take pics later due to it being 5:15 am
