Default Remote tailgate lock/unlock

I know there are a couple of threads about this in the 2009-present section, but it appears the wiring is different for our series. Also, I did it a slightly different way, so I thought I'd share.

Here's the $5 actuator set from ebay. How they can sell and ship it for $5 beats me!

Here's the bracket I fabricated to hook onto the existing plastic swing arm. It's designed to wedge onto the arm:

And here's the original mock-up assembled, with the tailgate mechanism removed from the tailgate. As you will see in the next picture, I had to modify this a bit:

This is the final mechanism I used, laid on top of where it will fit under the tailgate. It turns out that the actuator has more throw than is needed so I added a spring absorber mechanism to absorb the additional throw. This should prevent unnecessary stress on the mechanism:

Nice work pooch!
Does it integrate with all your keyless entry locks, or is it seperate?
You got a video clip to show it working?

And here's how the unit looks installed. As you can see, it's a straight screw in install, with no spacers required. This probably won't work on tailgates with steps:

For the wiring, I tapped into the passenger door unlock wiring, on the passenger side sill. This picture shows the location in the loom that you can tap into the wires:

The wires you want are the PINK/BLACK and PINK/ORANGE wires.

The wires are run out the sill via the grommet at the end of the sill and through the frame to the tailgate.

And here's the waterproof connector that is used to disconnect the tailgate:

That's all there is to it. It's fully integrated into the remote fob. You unlock it like the passenger door with two clicks, and it locks when you lock the truck. It's great since you don't need your key to unlock or lock your tailgate anymore. The key still works if you need it.

Just search eBay for "12v actuator". There are tons of them out there.

The bracket was made from the piece of metal they supplied. Cut and bent at one end, and rounded off at the other. The shim was just brazed on.
