Default Rear Frame on CL??

So I saw this guy on my local Craigslist and he was parting out a wrecked f150. One of the things that struck me strange was that he was selling the rear half of the frame, from like the front of the bed all the way back. I didnt know that you could swap "subframes" like you can with the older ones (and I know subframe is the wrong term here, but we all know what i'm referring to).

So a few questions:

A) Can you swap half the frame if say you wreck yours?

B) If you can swap, would it be reliable as the original frame?

C) Could I put a rear frame from a 6.5' SCrew on my 5.5' SCrew?

Thanks IA!

Not the point of the thread. Thanks for the idea though. I am wanting to know if you can put a good frame, rear section, from a 6.5' on a truck that had 5.5' originally?

Sure you could, but why? Just for a bigger box? I do not think I would want that many cut and filled connections on my truck. The integrity of the cut and weld of the frame would be my biggest concern. The exhaust, driveshaft, brake lines, wires. Just can’t see that making any sense at all. That's assuming the frame is straight enough to be useable.

I'm pretty sure the frame is solid, front to back, no sub frame. That means you would have to cut your frame and weld the longer wheelbase frame on. Like stated above, this wouldnt seem safe.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing too. If it were just easy, then yea, i'd like to have the 6.5' bed (didnt make them in 06 when I bought my truck). Its nice to be able to load an ATV w/out taking the toolbox out. Oh well, just gonna talk the gf into buyin my truck so I can get a bigger one

They were available in 06, my dad's screw has the 6.5ft flareside.
I think that if you did stretch your frame, fishplating the framerails and having it done by a certifited welder would be fine. Of course you wouldn't have any warrenty left and you may check with DMV in case you need to register as a "reconstruct" or some nonsense. If i'm rambling its cuz its still early here.
