Default Rear Differentials - Gone Bad

I have a 2007 F150. Driving home today, when I made a left hand turn something started to skip/jump in the back end of my truck. It continued to do that, but I had to get it home. Once I got home and got underneath it, I saw that the rear differential was jamming up. Looks like it is missing pieces. I have a warrenty coving my truck up to 100K miles (I am at 67K now). Would this be something that would be covered under warrenty? I am concerned because I have been told this is a very pricey part. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yep. It should be covered. Parts are somewhat expensive, but the labor would be pretty hefty too. Be glad its covered.

i have a 2007 f150 fx4, it recently developed a howl/whining from the rear. i popped the cover and changed the oil. there were no filings and oil seemed alright. i filled it back up with synthetic 75w140 and added the modifier. now it has a slight shudder when taking off from a dead stop which i am convinced is the clutch packs. Is there any way to tell the difference between the pinion bearing and the side bearings making this noise ? Or some trouble shooting tips?
